WHAT'S A THEME?

Bemusq's themes are similar to templates—with a key difference:

It's time-limited.

This means a theme is available for a limited time period, then taken "off the shelf" completely.

Why?

1) It ensures a design is exclusive to users who bought the theme in the release period, so they don't suffer from "doppelganger" sites.

2) It prevents decision paralysis—instead of scouring millions of templates, get 1 theme that speaks to you & build your brand on it.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE AVAILABILITY PERIOD IS OVER?

If you purchased the theme: the last season's theme will be "taken off the shelf", so you'll become the few who own access to it.

If you missed the period: sadly, you can no longer purchase the theme—that's why I suggest securing a theme if it really speaks to you.

(You can, of course, wait for the next theme to be released instead.)

If you're confident of your design skills, you can totally use Bemusq to create your own designs without making use of any theme.

WHY DOESN'T BEMUSQ HOST MY WEBSITE LIKE OTHER BUILDERS?

One key principle behind Bemusq: control .

When a builder gives you the design tools and host your website, it makes it hard for you to switch, even if the builder has deteriorated or if its pricing has become unaffordable—thereby losing you control.

What Bemusq does, instead, is to give you the control.

By letting you download the files & folders for each webpage, Bemusq gives you the freedom to choose your favorite provider to host them.

This means you can choose any provider you like, whenever you want.

E.g. I used to host bemusq.com on Dreamhost, but recently moved to Netlify for the free hosting & CDN. All I needed to do was upload my existing files to Netlify and boom! It's done.

And that's the kind of freedom I want my users to enjoy.

WHY DOESN'T BEMUSQ SAVE MY WEBSITE IN THE CLOUD?

Similarly, to reduce your dependence on one tool. (In this case, Bemusq.)

Once you're able to download your webpages, you can now choose your preferred approach to safekeep them—with hard drives or your preferred cloud storage solution.

It does put the responsibility in your hands, but IMO it's preferable to losing the freedom to switch platforms easily, and praying that platforms will store your data safely.

DO I NEED TO DOWNLOAD MY WEBPAGE EACH TIME?

Technically, you don't have to.

With Bemusq, your webpage is saved in your browser as you edit, and unless you clear your browser data, it should stay there.

That being said, if bugs happen or if your machine breaks down, you might lose your data.

That's why I strongly suggest to download as frequently as you can, and safekeep the downloaded folders & files in either your drives or chosen cloud solution.

PRICING Q & A

HOW CAN YOU MAKE BEMUSQ ONE-TIME-PAYMENT WHEN MOST BUILDERS ARE SUBSCRIPTION-BASED?

Bemusq is a highly focused builder—it focuses solely on helping you build simple webpages.

This means it doesn't:

• Host your website
• Store your images or data
• Add new features
• Provide other fancy frills like AI, inbuilt analytics, etc

This reduces the cost of maintenance, allowing me to offer Bemusq to you as an "as is" software.

(I will, of course, fix any bugs reported.)

IS THERE ANY TRIAL PERIOD?

Unfortunately, no.

As Bemusq is a "buy once, use forever" software, it's not viable to offer a trial period together with that.

DO YOU DO ANY REFUNDS?

Again, no.

I designed Bemusq to last you for years —if you managed to use it for 5 years, that's less than $10/year —cheaper than most of the subscription-based builders out there.

And if you managed to build just 5 webpages with it, each pages costs you less than $10 .

More importantly, if you're thinking of a refund before buying, maybe Bemusq is not the right tool for you.

(Or, if the current theme doesn't excite you enough, I suggest waiting for the right theme that makes you feel excited enough to invest your time & money in. )

DESIGN Q & A

WHY ARE BEMUSQ WEBPAGES SINGLE-COLUMN?

The idea of responsive design—where your webpage goes from single- to multiple-columns depending on the size of the device—is a great one.

Unfortunately, it also introduces all kinds of complexity & bugs.

IMO, these are problems meant for full-time professionals—as solo businesses, this causes too much work that deviates the solo owner from her most important task: growing the business.

Bemusq offers a fresh proposition: build simple, single-column pages that's far easier to manage.

Remember: it's not how sophisticated your website is, it's how you speak to your customers with them.

WHY DON'T YOU OFFER FONTS TO CHOOSE FROM?

Bemusq is a builder built specifically for non-professionals.

This means:

a) I do not expect its average user to know the difference between one font family & another. More fonts that look identical to the untrained eye is only going to confuse.

b) IMO, it's also not worth the time for amateurs to be deliberating among hundreds of fonts. IMO, it's way more productive to use that time instead on more important work, e.g. growing customers or honing their message.

In short: letting users choose the right "feel" makes this task way easier & faster, so they may move on to other work sooner.

HOW CAN I EXERCISE MORE DESIGN CONTROL?

If you're a professional, Bemusq may feel a little limiting at times.

This is why I include the customize.css in your download—add your CSS inside it to tweak your webpage further.

(If you're not sure what you're doing, however, I'd advise against this, as you might break the page without realizing why.)
